This is especially useful for students who want a diverse set of credits that help them with university and college but also with their resume! We're glad we can help share this information with those who have been searching! If this is you, read on! 🤓

Before we continue, let's find out what RCM is:

The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) is one of the largest and most respected music education institutions in the world. For more than 130 years, the RCM has been a global leader in developing human potential through leadership in music and the arts.

The accreditations vary by province so make sure to confirm with the Education Ministry website for each province. Check it here: https://www.rcmusic.com/learning/examinations/high-school-credits-canada#Ontario-5

This applies to EVERYONE, which means that you don’t have to be a young child to take the RCM exams – they’re open to anyone, of all ages – and you can take them purely for the personal and musical development.

If you’re considering taking the exams, here's some information that you may find interesting and helpful!

RCM EXAMS: HIGH SCHOOL ACCREDITATION

In Canada, taking the RCM exams while still in high school can give you credits for it!

  • Passing RCM 6 (w/ associated theory) gives you a high school grade 10 credit.

  • Passing RCM 7 (w/ associated theory) gives you a high school grade 11 credit.

  • Passing RCM 8 (w/ associated theory) gives you a high school grade 12 credit.

Overall, in the end of the day, it's not just about the music credits or the high school achievements. It's the ability to create and collaborate freely through music. There are various YAMAHA Music Programs that develop creativity in all aspects of musical learning.
