Introducing Our Guest Speakers


Dr. Katie Lok, C. Psych.


Dr. Katie Lok received her Ph.D. in School and Clinical Child Psychology from OISE/University of Toronto and is registered as a Clinical Child Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She currently works as a Clinical Psychologist in the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor (part-time) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University, and a current supervisor for the Clinical Child Psychology Residency at McMaster Children's Hospital. Dr. Lok conducts comprehensive psychological assessments and provides treatment to children and adolescents who experience developmental, learning, social, emotional, attention and behavioural dysregulations. She provides consultations to parents on supporting their children’s emotional and behavioural challenges while fostering positive parent-child relationships. In addition, she teaches and supervises psychology and psychiatry trainees at the hospital.


Dr. Lok will be covering these three main topics during the workshop:

1) How to support your children during online learning

2) How to support your child's social and emotional functioning during Covid

3) How can parents practice self-care during Covid

Karen Kwok-Liu, MM, RP, MTA, MT-BC


Teacher Karen Kwok-Liu is a board certified music therapist in Canada and United States, Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario & clinical internship supervisor with Wilfrid Laurier University. She graduated from University of Toronto majoring in Psychology and Music, and obtained her Master’s degree in Music Therapy & Gerontology certificate from Western Michigan University. During her school years, Karen was a research assistant in the University of Toronto’s Infant Studies Psychology and Music lab, and a graduate assistant in the Gerontology department in Western Michigan University. Karen received two academic scholarship awards in Michigan, and is a profound piano player and choir member since childhood. In 2004 Karen founded Bloomy Music Therapy to serve and promote public awareness of music therapy. Throughout the years, she has provided regular services for the long term cares and community agencies such as Region of Peel Municipal government; Yee Hong; Monsheong; Extendicare; Sienna Living; Carefirst; Community Living; Christian Horizons; Gifted People Services and Spirit of Life etc. Karen has also appeared as a guest on the popular Fairchild Cantonese TV program “Leisure Talk”; AM1430 “Medicine talk” radio show; OMNI TV “Focus” program and contributed articles for the Viva Magazine about music therapy and autism in the past. In 2017, along with her husband Samuel, Karen launched her drum circle services for the community and is also certified as Yamaha School of Music instructor. In 2018 Karen and Sam have been invited as the opening guest performers for the Toronto major event Dragon Ball. They opened their music center in Mississauga “Perfect Harmony Music Studio” to provide a variety of music programs for all families in the community.
